I’ve learned that the best pictures are always about the intimate, organic moments shared between you, your partner, and the people who come to celebrate your love.
The glamour, the love, and the newly formed web of family and friends are documented in an unobtrusive, authentic, and friendly way. Some have even called me a “Ninja” because I work quietly yet tirelessly, capturing the ceremony and the joyful celebration afterward. One of the best compliments I’ve ever received is, “I hardly knew you were there.”
I aim for a mix of a few posed shots and a lot of natural, candid action.
Tom McCall
My journey into wedding photography started while I was earning my MA in photojournalism at Ohio University. In 1994, I found myself inadvertently shooting my first wedding in Vermont with just one Leica camera and ten rolls of black-and-white film. I wasn’t the hired photographer; I simply wanted to tell the story of the weekend for a school project. To my surprise (and perhaps to the hired photographer’s dismay), the newlyweds only wanted to buy my photos.
Shortly after, an old family friend saw those photos and asked me to photograph her wedding—this time, for hire. Think Upper East Side, New York City. That was the moment Tom McCall Photography was born.
Since then, I’ve documented over 200 unique celebrations, from the Everglades Club in Palm Beach to a private ranch in Montana, from the sunny island of Bermuda to New York’s Rainbow Room. My motto? “Have camera, will travel.”
My work has been featured in publications like Town and Country, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Social Register Association’s publication.
When I document your wedding, I also make sure to capture the details you’ve worked so hard to plan—your family and wedding party portraits, the cake, food scenes, styled shots of your invitations, your Manolo Blahniks, the flowers, and other carefully curated touches. After the wedding, I edit all the images and present them to you so you can share them with your loved ones and even provide options for them to purchase prints.
Depending on the package you choose, I can create high-quality leather albums for you, your parents, or anyone else who wants to treasure these memories for a lifetime. I’m skilled in Photoshop and can make subtle touch-ups as needed. If you love the timeless quality of black-and-white film, I can incorporate that too—maybe covering 10% of your day in film. Need a second shooter? We can make that happen as well.
Many of my clients stay in touch long after their wedding day. I’ve been blessed to catch up with them through phone calls or Christmas cards, sharing in their lives as their families grow.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m a devoted husband to my wife Samantha—we’ve been married for 30 years—and a proud dad to our two amazing kids, Max and Molly. Before starting my photography business, Samantha and I worked as newspaper reporters. We even took a year off to travel the world together, exploring everywhere from Bali to Bombay and Ireland to Tibet.
These days, I enjoy bird-watching, movies, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, and, most of all, spending time with my family.
I’m here to make your wedding photography experience easy and enjoyable. Whether you need coverage for just the ceremony and reception or want the full weekend documented—like your bridesmaids’ lunch, spa day, golf outing, or rehearsal dinner—we can create a bespoke package just for you.
I’m honored to see you at your best on this most important day, and I can’t wait to tell your story through my lens.
